National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson Scheduled To Attend
LINCOLN (August 24, 2011) –
Johnson
will make a one hour powerpoint presentation on the basics and choices in the
upcoming Farm Bill on the Exhibition stage on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. Johnson
will also be attending the Minnesota and South Dakota State Fairs and making
Farm Bill presentations as National Farmers Union begins the educational
process in preparation for the upcoming Farm Bill.
“We
are extremely pleased that NFU President Johnson will be visiting us at the
Nebraska State Fair. We want to make
sure that he has enough time in his schedule to go see the new facilities. We are also pleased that he will be
presenting a program on the upcoming Farm Bill.
President Johnson’s background in agricultural economics and Director of
the North Dakota Department of Agriculture gives him many of the skills we need
as we put our heads together in the ag community to figure out how we deal with
the very substantial reductions in Farm Program funding that we all know are
coming,” said John Hansen, NEFU President.
“We hope that people also stop by our booth and get acquainted with our
national President.”
“I
am looking forward to coming to the State Fair. I have heard many good things
about the new facilities and the renewed emphasis on agriculture. I hope that our Farm Bill presentation helps
folks get a better understanding of some of the difficult realities agriculture
is facing in the days ahead as we begin the Farm Bill development process in
the midst of a federal fiscal crisis,” said Johnson.
“Part
of our educational efforts is to remind our public officials and our citizens
that if we are serious about creating new jobs and getting our economy moving forward
again, we need to harness the power of production agriculture to create new
wealth, new jobs, and additional tax revenues at the local, state, and federal
levels. Agriculture is an economic
engine. We can not only grow crops and
food, we can grow our national economy,” said Roger Johnson. “Also, John Hansen has been telling me for
some time that it is possible to eat over a dozen food items on a stick at the
State Fair, and they are all good. I
hope to sample at least a couple of those items before I head to
