NEBFARMPAC Endorses David
Heineman for Governor in General Election
(
Gale Lush of Wilcox, NEBFARMPAC President said, "Governor Dave Heineman has earned our
endorsement based on his proven track record of achievement on the wide range
of issues that impact rural voters.”
Lush
listed some of the issues the NEBFARMPAC Board of Directors considered before
they made their unanimous vote to endorse:
·
Rural
Development
·
Renewable
Energy development, including ethanol and wind energy
·
Local
control of schools and planning and zoning authority
·
Common
sense approach to fiscal management
·
Support
of appropriate corporate farming restrictions
·
Open
door policy for all members of the rural community
Lush
said, “Governor Heineman stands with the majority of family farmers, ranchers,
and members of the rural community and our organization on the majority of
bread and butter economic issues.
Governor Heineman has consistently supported local decision making for
local schools and planning and zoning.
He knows that local people believe that when it comes to making
decisions about their communities, local people are the most qualified people
to make those decisions, they live with the consequences of their decisions,
and if they do make a mistake, they have a vested interest in fixing it.”
John
Hansen, NEBFARMPAC Secretary said, “Thanks to Governor Heineman’s leadership
and support, Nebraska has become the second leading ethanol producing state in
the nation, and is now moving forward with wind energy development while
protecting our unique public power system that provides urban and rural
citizens with the benefits of great service and low rates. More ethanol and wind development means more
capital investment in rural communities, more good paying jobs with benefits, more
tax revenues, cleaner air, and more earned income for Nebraska’s family farmers
and ranchers so we can help keep rural kids in rural communities. Governor Heineman has earned our “Friend of
Family Farm Agriculture” designation.”
Nebraska Farmers Union (NEFU) has been fighting to
protect and enhance the economic well being and quality of life for family
farmers, ranchers, and their rural communities since 1913. NEFU is the largest progressive general farm
organization in the state with more 5,300 family memberships.
