Nebraska Farmers Union Sponsors Youth Camp at Halsey 4H Camp August 7-10

Lincoln, NE.  Nebraska Farmers Union (NEFU) announced today that the theme of this year’s youth camp, held annually in the magnificent Sandhills of Nebraska, will be “Harnessing Our Potential.”

“Camp activities all build on rural values and rural pride,” said NEFU President and Head Camp Counselor John Hansen.  “Harnessing our potential includes the power of cooperation—how individuals, families and communities work together to achieve goals they cannot accomplish separately.  Our camp programming also teaches self-esteem, team-building and leadership skills, to help campers grow their own potential as individuals.”

NEFU campers enjoy an outstanding music program, and they play hard, Hansen said.  Campers tube the Middle Loup River, swim, practice crafts and shooting sports, games and ball sports.  “They have fun, and learn too,” Hansen said. “This year, we are looking at how rural folks are harnessing the energy potential of the land with clean renewable fuels.  We also teach campers patriotic values, including the patriotic contributions family farmers make by protecting our natural resources, producing high quality safe food, and helping America become energy-independent at the same time.”

NEFU has always been a family organization, conducting summer youth camps since the organization was chartered in 1913.  The Cenex Harvest States Foundation, Farm Aid, the Nebraska Humanities Council, the Nebraska Farmers Union Foundation and NEFU all provide support for this year’s camp.

Nebraska Farmers Union is the state’s second largest and oldest general farm organization representing over 4,500 farm and ranch families and the rural communities they live in.  The mission of Nebraska Farmers Union is to improve the economic well being and quality of life of family farmers and ranchers, and their rural communities.
