Nebraska Farmers Union To Sponsor Kleeb/Raimondo Debate

Lincoln, NEThe Nebraska Farmers Union (NEFU), along with the Nebraska State Grange, and the JJ Exon Foundation will be sponsoring the JJ Exon Debate between Democratic Senate candidates Scott Kleeb and Tony Raimondo.  The debate will be conducted in honor of former Nebraska Senator JJ Exon and will be located at the State Theatre, 1415 O Street, Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. CDT.

The JJ Exon Debate will be broadcasted live on KLKN Channel 8 of Lincoln and will last one hour.  Rod Fowler will be moderator.  A panel of media representatives will question both candidates.  Questions shall probe their positions on agricultural, international and national issues. The Candidates will also be able to pose one question to each other. The Lancaster County Democratic Party will be in charge of arranging for and hosting the debate.

“I think this debate is a great opportunity to hear two solid candidates square off on the major issues that impact agriculture and rural citizens.  Voters need to know how the Senatorial candidates plan to address the economy, the federal deficit, access to affordable health care, renewable energy, the farm bill, and Iraq among other issues.  We hope this debate helps voters make an informed decision in the upcoming Primary Election” said NEFU President John K. Hansen.

Live radio broadcast by KRVN Radio of Lexington is also expected to make this a statewide event.

A reception to meet both of the candidates will be held before the debate at 12:00 pm at the State Theatre.  Admission to the reception is $40.00. All proceeds of the reception will support the activities of the Lancaster County Democratic Party.

The doors will then be opened at 12:45 p.m. for the general public.  The admission to the debate is free, however seating is limited on a first come, first serve basis.  Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

The Primary Election will be held on May 13, 2008.  The Presidential Primary has already taken place by Nebraska’s first ever caucus vote.  The winner of the Democratic Primary will most likely take on Republican Mike Johanns in the General Election in November.  U.S. Senate Candidates are vying for the seat being vacated by current U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel.

Federal Campaign Restrictions are being followed.  This is not a fundraiser for either candidate. Each Candidate is each asking for a donation of up to $5,000 per year.  They are not asking for funds from corporations, labor organizations, or other federally prohibited sources.
